We would like to heartily thank The Green Initiative Fund (TGIF) for generously providing two mini-grants to PowerSave
Green Campus: one for our Fight the Flow campaign, and one for laundry drying racks for University Village.
Fight the Flow
The first of the two grants will be used to purchase low-flow showerheads for students in the Unit 2 residence halls and for 50 families in University Village, the family housing complex. Through this grant, we will be able to further implement the Fight the Flow project, which aims to help UC Berkeley save gallons of water by reducing water consumption. The new low-flow shower heads will allow users to consume less water and encourage behavior changes in those who use these showers. These valves have already been installed in Unit 3.
University Village Laundry Project
The second grant will help the team implement a sustainable laundry program in University Village. With the money, University Village plans to purchase drying racks that will save energy by partially or totally replacing drying machines in
the housing complex. The grant money will allow us to implement a pilot program in University Village, where we can assess the level of adoption of the racks and calculate how much energy is saved. This could pave the way for future laundry projects.
