TGIF Program Associate Claire Kaufman interviewed the TGIF funded Berkeley Student Food Collective’s Business and Development Interns.
Real Food Advocacy Intern
Name: Chin-Yi (Eve) Lee
Year in school: Junior
Major: Nutritional Science, Dietetics
Why/when you got involved with BSFC internships: I have been a BSFC volunteer since my freshmen year, and am now probably one of the “oldest” members! As a passionate and conscious “foodie,” I loved our purchasing policy of sourcing local, organic, humane and fairly-traded food to the community, and would love to share what I have learned at BSFC to everyone around me!
What you have accomplished so far? I have started the 100 Days of Mini-Pledges project (based off of 100 Days of Real Food) on the BSFC Tumblr, and will update every week’s Real Food Mission and Reflection on there. I am in the process of a Real Food Challenge Workshop for Food Day, and have reached out to other student groups and CalDining; however, they are still at the preliminary stages. I am also working on our new labels with our IT, and we will probably be planning out a timeline for that this Sunday.
Other things you’re involved in or out of Berkeley: I am a CNR Peer Advisor Leader (PAL), and also the Secretary of the Student Dietetics Association (SDA).
Favorite thing about the Food Collective: The wonderful people and the delicious, sustainable food that we have!
Fun Fact: I accidentally made a form of “curry” soup on Monday, spiced with cumin, turmeric, garlic powder and carrot tops!
