ECO Movies Presents: “Do the Math” National Screening
4/21, 6:30pm-9pm, 126 Barrows
Join 350.org, Fossil Free Cal, STeam, and SERC as we kick off Earth Week with the national premier of Do the Math, a 45-minute documentary on the terrifying numbers behind climate change and the growing international movement to stop it. The film will be immediately followed by a live-streamed panel discussion with climate leaders from across the nation including Bill McKibben, Co-founder of 350.org, and Dr. James Hansen, director of the NASA Goddard Institute for Space Studies.
Following the live-streamed panel discussion, we will briefly introduce current on-campus initiatives, including the campaign to divest the UC System from fossil fuels, and open the evening to further discussion.
Admission is free and we’ll be serving up Cheeseboard pizza from 6:30-7pm, so come early and stay for what will undoubtedly be an informative and inspiring evening! We look forward to seeing you there!

In recent years climate science has come under increasing attack, from both the media and the scientific community. Seeking to find the truth, geologist Simon Lamb took his camera to find out what was happening behind the data.

Causes.com is hosting an online organizing workshop on April 24th from 6:00 – 8:00 pm in 251 Dwinelle Hall. It will be geared towards students with previous experience in organizing and is meant to offer helpful tools and best practices to current organizers to achieve their existing campaign goals. Please send this this out out to whoever you think might be eligible amongst your networks. If you are planning to attend yourself, taking a short survey at the link below is required as there is a cap of 15 people. For more info check out the facebook event. From networking to viral distribution, social media and online platforms can be powerful grassroots organizing tools. How can you best harness the power of these digital tools for your campaign? In this interactive workshop, we’ll look at campaign strategy and lead into best practices for online organizing, including campaigns platform Causes.com. You’ll leave with a holistic social media and digital outreach strategy for your campaign. The workshop will be presented by the Community Team Director and College Outreach Coordinator from Causes.com.
1) An understanding of your campaign’s theory of change
2) Best practices for telling a compelling story to encourage people to join the campaign or take action
3) Knowledge about what digital tools are out there and how they can serve your particular campaign’s needs.
In advance: SurveyMonkey- Please fill out. Some previous/current experience in an organizing role will be important for attendees in order to get the most out of this workshop. Although we do cover some basics of campaign structure, this workshop is meant to offer helpful tools and best practices to current organizers to achieve their existing campaign goals. This workshop is probably not suitable for people who aren’t already working on or planning a campaign.
